On Tuesday, June 22, Governor Ivey hosted a ceremonial bill signing for Senate Bill 119, which revises municipal elections in the state. Specifically, the new law moves roughly 97% of municipal elections off the presidential cycle, moves the qualification of candidates from July to June, shortens the run-off time from six to four weeks and requires the clerk to file a copy of each certificate of election with the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) and Secretary of State.
The legislation was endorsed by ALM and sponsored by Senator Jabo Waggoner, R – Vestavia Hills, and Representative Jim Hill, R – Odenville.
