Becky Brown was recognized during the first football game of the 2026 season as she prepares to retire after 20 years as public relations director for Opelika City Schools. An Opelika High School and Auburn University graduate, Brown has spent two decades helping tell the story of the school system through periods of growth, leadership changes, facility projects, athletic success and countless school and community events. Her work extended well beyond photographs and publicity, including coordinating special events, supporting staff and families with timely information and building strong relationships throughout Opelika and Lee County. Brown was honored with the Opelika Chamber of Commerce’s Spirit of Opelika Award in 2023. Over the years, she became a familiar presence at school programs, graduations, athletic events and celebrations across the district, helping ensure students, employees and their accomplishments were recognized. Her retirement marks the close of a career defined by service to Opelika City Schools and the Bulldog community. PHOTOS BY ROBERT NOLES | THE OBSERVER
