A new inclusive playground at West Ridge Park will officially open to the public Thursday, Aug. 20, marking a significant enhancement to the community’s recreational offerings. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled at 9 a.m., followed by free play for attendees. The playground is thoughtfully designed to serve children of all abilities. Key features include two large play pods, four additional play structures, a triple-bay swing set and multiple shade structures positioned throughout the area. This addition builds on the success of last year’s inclusive playground opening at Floral Park and reflects a continued commitment to creating welcoming, engaging spaces for all families. Inclusive playgrounds go beyond basic accessibility standards by intentionally supporting physical, sensory and social play. Elements such as tactile panels, wide slides, adaptive swings and wheelchair-accessible ramps allow children with and without disabilities to play together in a shared environment. The playground is part of a broader $2.3 million renovation project at West Ridge Park. Project improvements include new surfacing and fencing for the Miracle League field, park-wide fencing replacement, restroom and press box renovations, field upgrades, new scoreboards and lighting, shaded bleacher areas, park benches and picnic amenities, irrigation enhancements, improved landscaping and aesthetic improvements.
