AUBURN — Auburn School Board Members were honored with gifts from principals and employees, at the Jan. 13 School Board Meeting, as well as a banner prepared by Auburn Junior High School. Superintendent Dr. Cristen Herring also shared her appreciation for the board and the time they take to make students the focus of their decisions.

“Please join me in celebrating School Board Appreciation Month,” she said. “This marks the 33rd annual celebration of School Board Appreciation across the state of Alabama. In our state, there are approximately 800 people who serve as school board members in the different school systems, but I would say to any of you — we have the very best. Our school board members are appointed by the city council — they serve as volunteers, and they give untold hours of service and support to Auburn City Schools as policy makers and governing members of our community. Your leadership is steadfast, and your decisions are always centered on students.”

Herring also presented the first reading on the Parent and Student Handbook for the next academic year.

“There is just one item I’d like to please present for table, the 2026-2027 Parent and Student Handbook,” she said. “These are presented for your first read and review. We have indicated the summation of changes, and then pending any updates or questions or the need to make revisions, we will bring this back to you for consideration at the Feb. 10 board meeting. So no action required tonight.”
