CONTRIBUTED BY AO TOURISM
AUBURN-OPELIKA — Volunteer AO is Auburn–Opelika Tourism’s (AOT) volunteer program that gives area residents a chance to share their hometown hospitality while supporting local events. From community gatherings and sporting events to meetings and conventions, volunteers fill essential roles that help everything run smoothly. As Auburn–Opelika’s event calendar continues to grow, AOT is expanding Volunteer AO to keep volunteers connected, informed and ready to make a positive impact.
Since the beginning of the program, it has grown steadily, becoming a reliable way for community members to support events of all sizes. AOT is continuing to strengthen volunteer engagement by developing new tools, including a potential text-alert system, expanded social media communication and added outreach through LinkedIn to better connect with local service groups.
“Volunteers bring the human element that makes Auburn–Opelika special,” said Karen Gilmore, experience manager for Auburn–Opelika Tourism. “They’re the friendly faces greeting guests, the problem-solvers during events and often the difference between an experience that is simply manageable and one that feels seamless.”
Volunteer AO supports a wide range of local events, including sporting tournaments, community festivals, holiday celebrations and meeting-planner activities. Their presence helps ensure each experience reflects the warmth, reliability and hospitality Auburn–Opelika is known for.
