KARL RICHARD WESTFALL JR.
Karl Richard Westfall Jr. was born April 7, 1957, and passed away Jan. 8, 2025.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home in the Parlor. A service will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery.

TONETTE TAYLOR LONG
Tonette Taylor Long, whose warmth and kindness brightened the lives of those she met, entered into the presence of the Lord on Jan. 15, 2025, at age 85 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and heart disease. She was surrounded with her family in her home in Auburn.
She is survived by her son, Michael Gordon Bond; brother, D.C. “Buddy” Long; and granddaughter, Emma Grace Bond. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Gordon Crews Bond, Milton Thomas Inge and Paul Von Ward.
Daughter of Antone “Tony” Garcia Long and Ruth Nell Taylor Long, Tonette was born on Aug. 25, 1939, in Lakeland, Florida. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College, Auburn University and Florida State University, where she received multiple degrees in Business, French and English, and where she developed a passion for writing and the Arts.
She taught English Literature at multiple institutions from 1974 to 1982 before joining the nonprofit Delphi International Group, where she ascended to president before leaving in 1996. After relocating from Washington D.C. to Ashland, Oregon, she taught at Southern Oregon University where she enjoyed Shakespeare Theatre, hiking in the mountains, snow skiing, gardening, poetry and rowing. In 2006 she relocated to Dahlonega, Georgia, to be close to her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. There she resumed teaching at the University of North Georgia until 2015, when Alzheimer’s pushed her to retirement. Prior to retiring she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, traveling, writing, apple picking, poetry, community projects, and gardening with her family, close friends, and beloved husband Paul. Despite her busy career she was always there when needed and was a rock for her family.
A graveside service will be held at Memorial Cemetery in Dahlonega on Jan. 25, at 1 p.m.

BERNADETTE F. WEIMAR
Bernadette Weimar passed away peacefully at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenroy Weimar, and her eight brothers and sisters.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Bernadette is survived by her daughter, Wendi Weimar; son, Glenroy Weimar and his wife Carol; grandson, Zachary Weimar and his wife Sachiko; and grandson, Marcus Weimar and his wife Brooke.
As a devout Catholic, Bernadette maintained a deep and lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother, which guided her faith throughout her life. She worked tirelessly as a secretary to put both her husband and children through college, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her family’s education and future success. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in sharing her love of sewing and baking with those around her. Her warmth, selflessness and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A service will be held Monday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Auburn.

BETTY GRACE EDWARDS BOYNTON
Betty Grace Edwards Boynton, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Jan. 17, 2025. Born and raised in Auburn, she made Northport, Alabama, her home for the last 44 years.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Betty cherished her family above all else. She was known for her gentle love and deep commitment to those close to her heart. Her warm spirit and kind nature left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Betty’s life was defined by her un-wavering devotion to her family, creating a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those that she leaves behind.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene Boynton. Together, they created cher-ished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of their daughter and grandson. Betty was also predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Martha Edwards, as well as her siblings Irvin Ed-wards, Milo Edwards, Janice Pace and Zelda Carroll.
Her life is celebrated and remembered by those who survive her: her daughter, Leigh Donahue (Lar-ry Van Horn); her precious grandson, Conner Donahue; and her sister, Marian (Tom) Givens.
A private memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at a late date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or ProHealth Hospice.
The family would like to say thank you to all her wonderful caregivers, Korissa Goodwin, LaChasity Wilder, nurse Amber Strickland and everyone at ProHealth Hospice. Thank you to all her sweet neighbors, who frequently called or stopped by to check on her.

EDNA BARNES LUHTA
Edna Luhta, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Opelika on Jan. 12, 2025, surrounded by two of her four children.
Born Edna Chancey of Enterprise on Nov. 22, 1930, she lived a long and productive life. She was a devoted mother and the founder of Southern Upholstery in Opelika. She turned the business over to her son Joel and his wife upon retiring in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Thomas Luhta.
She is survived by her children, Gina Halberstadt, Joel (Catherine) Barnes and Juan (Kathy) Barnes, all of Opelika, and Chancey (Patti) of New Hope; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She leaves behind many relatives and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Lil Fox, which she adopted from the Macon County Humane Society.
A private ceremony was held Jan. 22 at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Macon County Humane Society.

YEONTAEK KIM
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Yeontaek Kim on Jan. 10, 2025, at the age of 48.
Yeontaek was born on Dec. 20, 1976, in South Korea. He was a kind and dedicated person who touched the lives of many. His warmth, sincerity and unwavering support for those around him will always be remembered.
Yeontaek is survived by his loving family and friends, who will cherish his memory forever.

BENJAMIN “DERRICK” WALKER
Benjamin “Derrick” Walker, 62, of Beulah passed away Jan. 16, 2025.
Mr. Walker is survived by an abundance of friends, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin “Ben” Floyd Walker; mother, Mary Ann Walker; and grandparents.
Services were held Jan. 19 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, with Pastor Ricky Thomaston of Pine Grove Church officiating. Pallbearers were Bobby Cash, Ryan Spier, Ronnie Ray, Troy Walker, Travis Murphy and Brandon Hodge. Burial followed in Garden Hills Cemetery.

DOROTHY IRENE “DOTTIE” HOLMES
Dottie Holmes was a beloved member of the National Village community in Opelika for over a decade. She was born at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico, on Jan. 27, 1950. She passed away after a valiant two-year battle with cancer on Jan. 14, just shy of her 75th birthday.
Many know of her great patriotism and commitment to the nation. She served faithfully for 26 years as a solder in the U.S. Army including as a helicopter pilot, flying with the 101st Airborne Division. She achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 and was one of the first female Army helicopter pilots.
She became a fixture during her retirement at National Village, organizing the women’s golf tournaments and being a self-appointed ambassador for the community. Dottie never met a stranger. In later years she rediscovered her faith in the Lord Jesus who had watched over her all those years in harm’s way.
She loved her immediate family, including her beloved stepson, Joshua Conradson, his wife Katy and their two children Jack and Milly. She will be so missed by her sister, Yvone Cross, and brother, Bedford Holmes, as well as their extended families. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their children mourn her loss, not to mention all her dear friends locally and comrades in arms.
A memorial service was held Jan. 18 at Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Tunnel to Towers Foundation or David Jeremiah Ministries.

JANNIE PIERCE
Jannie Pierce, 83, of Auburn passed away Jan. 12, 2025.
Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, G.D. Buddy Pierce, and parents, Lucille Hicks Walker and Julian M. Hicks.
She is survived by her son, Mark Pierce (Margaret); grandchildren, David Cox (Diana) and Nathanial Cox; great-grandchildren, Braden Cox, Kalen Cox, Patience Cox and Jamie Hogan; and siblings, Jean Minor and Martha Evans.
Funeral services were held Jan. 17 at New Home Baptist Church in Enterprise.

DR. NORMA BRUCE BREWER NABORS
Dr. Norma Bruce Brewer Nabors, 96, passed away Jan. 9, 2025, at her home in Auburn.
She was born in Birmingham to the late Dr. Arthur Melville and Nellie May (Stine) Bruce.
Norma started her college years at the University of Montevallo, where she was a beauty and president of her junior and senior classes. She received many honors, including Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest. She graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in physical education, then earned a M.S. from Troy University and an Ed.D. from Auburn University. She taught in Louisiana and Alabama and retired from the State of Alabama’s Department of Post-Secondary Education.
She was an avid gardener and award-winning artist. Dr. Nabors combined her artistic abilities by creating beautiful gardens and then painting her favorite flowers. She also painted members of her family, which was at the heart of her soul. She treasured every family member, their spouses and children.
Married in 1950 to Leo Ira Louie Brewer, they had four children before divorcing in 1972.
Dr. Nabors was preceded in death by her last husband, Colonel James F. Nabors, a highly decorated Army veteran who retired with several honors including four silver stars, one bronze star and two purple hearts, and her eldest son, Dr. Arthur Bruce Brewer.
Norma, also known as “Precious,” is survived by her daughter, Barbara Brewer Taylor; two sons, Leo Ira Louie Brewer Jr. and William David Brewer; two step-daughters, six grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Jan. 15 at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum in Birmingham.

Elizabeth Stewart was born April 15, 1946, and died Jan. 15, 2025.

KAY LYNN WIGGINS GARRISON
Mrs. Kay Garrison, 62, of Salem passed away Jan. 10, 2025, at the age of 62. Kay was born in the state of Georgia on April 13, 1962, to her mother, Alice.
She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Stephen Garrison Sr.; her son, Stephen Garrison Jr.; and her daughter, Allison Garrison.
