LEE COUNTY — The Lee County Commission honored Maj. John “Alex” Klinner on March 30 with a resolution recognizing his service in the U.S. Air Force and his sacrifice after he lost his life during Operation Epic Fury on March 12.
Klinner, a former Auburn resident and Auburn University student, left behind his wife and three young children.
Auburn, Lee County and the state of Alabama have mourned Klinner, with Gov. Kay Ivey ordering the flags to be flown at half-mast and Lee County quickly following suit.
“With the utmost reverence and respect, we honor and mourn the life of Maj. John Alex Klinner,” read District 2 Commissioner Ross Morris.
Lee County Probate Judge Jere Colley also said he spoke with Klinner’s family and told them they would honor Klinner at the meeting. Klinner’s funeral took place the same day as the meeting in Trussville.
“Now therefore, be it resolved by the Lee County Commission that we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Maj. John Alex Klinner, as well as the five other members of the KC-135 crew, and pledge that their selfless sacrifice shall not be forgotten and express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones left behind,” Morris read. “We offer this resolution in highest tribute to their legacy.”
