CONTRIBUTED BY THE DREAM DAY FOUNDATION

OPELIKA — In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of beloved community, the Dream Day Foundation proudly names The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club as the “2026 Dream Achievers” for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.

Formed in 1997, The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club was founded by a group of men who believed that brotherhood carried responsibility — not only to one another, but to the entire community.

The original members — Jamie Robinson, Jackie Robinson, Jerome “Pop” Carr and Michael Lockhart — established the club on principles of unity, service, integrity and a genuine love for people. From its beginning, the club has stood as a quiet but powerful force for good, helping to bridge racial divides, uplift families and invest in the future of young people.

At the heart of their mission has always been a deep love for children and for people in general. The club has faithfully supported initiatives that ensure children feel seen, valued and confident — most notably their support of Back-to-School Haircut events, helping students begin the school year with dignity and pride. They have also provided scholarships to graduating seniors, offering not just financial assistance, but encouragement and belief in the potential of the next generation.

The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club has been a steadfast supporter of the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, understanding the importance of honoring Dr. King’s legacy and teaching young people the values of peace, justice and service. In addition, they have extended help to families in need, particularly when children are involved, stepping in quietly but faithfully when support is most needed.

Since 2020, the club has also served as proud sponsors of the Annual Black Male Summit, supporting its mission from the very beginning. Their involvement has helped create spaces where young Black males can be encouraged, empowered and guided toward leadership, purpose, and positive self-identity.

The journey of The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club has been marked by both joy and loss. Several beloved members have transitioned, yet their legacy continues to live on through the work they began and the lives they touched. Those honored in memory include James Kellum, Ruben Robinson, Taylor Askew, Wardell Clark, Edward Shepherd, James Kellon and Jerome “Pop” Carr. Each of these men left an indelible mark on the club and the community and their contributions remain a vital part of its foundation.

Today, the remaining members — Jackie Robinson, Clarence Dowdell, Johnny Ivey and Enoch Betts — continue to uphold the values upon which the club was built. They remain actively involved in community efforts, serving those in need and carrying forward the spirit of brotherhood, service and love that has defined The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club for nearly three decades.

For their unwavering dedication to unity, their efforts to bridge communities, their love for children and families and their lasting impact on generations of young people, The Good Ol’ Boys Social Club is a most deserving recipient of the 2026 Dream Achievers honor.
