LAFAYETTE — Local children were in for a treat courtesy of the LaFayette Library as they hosted the Cyber Game Truck Saturday, May 31. As families approached the library, they could see the decorated truck parked outside featuring video game characters such as Master Chief from Halo, Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed and Steve From Minecraft.
Cyber Game Truck owner and operator, Christopher Payne of Auburn, greeted guests outside the library entrance as they arrived
“Cyber Game Truck is a mobile video game theater that is able to entertain groups of children for any occasion, whether it is a family reunion, birthday parties or family get togethers,” Payne said of his traveling entertainment venue. “Inside we have six 55-inch TVs with multiple gaming consoles including PS5s, Xbox Xs and Nintendo Switches.”
Payne spoke on some of the unique needs in the community that are served by his game truck.
“All kids aren’t able to afford gaming consoles and some parents aren’t willing or don’t want to purchase gaming consoles for them because they want their kids to remain more active,” he said. “They can rent this as a treat annually or just any time to at least satisfy that gaming itch that children may have. So a temporary rental instead of a major purchase.”
Payne said he has emjoyed working with the local library.
“It has been a blast working with the Chambers County Library, the LaFayette Library to be specific. This is I think our fourth year coming out here and it is always a great turnout. Today we are overcast but I am hopeful that we are still going to have a big turnout. Last year I think we had 70 to 80 children come through and this is to kick off the summer reading program. What a way to encourage children to come out and check out books by having the game truck here.”
LaFayette Library Branch Manager Rachel Johnson also shared her thoughts on the Cyber Game Truck marking the beginning of the summer program.
“A lot of children love video games and Mr. Chris from Cyber Game Truck of Auburn, he is really good,” Johnson said. [He is] very efficient and professional, [has] a clean truck, up-to-date games. He is just awesome. The kids love it and they love to come every year. We consider it kind of like our kick off to summer, so the game truck is one of the first things that we do in the summer, and then we have [more] programs after that.
“We have a lot of fun stuff. I think Louie is our first performer, he is going to start on Tuesday. Then we have art and craft days, so many things, legos. We would love for you to come join our summer reading program; If you read with us you get fun prizes and everything is free.”
