The city of Opelika kicked off local Juneteenth celebrations June 16 at Courthouse Square in downtown. Beginning at 6 p.m. the free, family-friendly festivities included live music, games, dance competitions, vendors, community resource booths, food trucks and more. A number of community members were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their care, commitment and courage to effect change in the community.
