OLLI to host Alabama State Council on the Arts’s executive director on Oct. 2

OLLI will host the executive director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA) Elliot A. Knight Ph.D. during the “Brown Bag Lunch and Lecture” on Oct. 2 at 12:15 p.m.
Knight will present a talk on Alabama artists during the program. He is the editor of and a contributor to Alabama Creates: 200 Years of Arts and Artists, which will be available for purchase at the event.
The book and Knight’s talk will address the integral part artists have played of the story of Alabama, reflecting a wide-ranging sense of place through images of the land and its people.
Quilts, pottery, visionary paintings, sculpture, photography, folk art and abstract art have all contributed to diverse visions of Alabama’s culture and environment.
Prior to becoming executive director of ASCA in January 2019, Knight held the positions of Visual Arts Program Manager and Deputy Director at ASCA. He holds three degrees from the University of Alabama.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University (OLLI at Auburn) hosts its Alabama Bicentennial Brown Bag Lunch and Lecture Series from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities, also known as Pebble Hill, which is located at 101 S. Debardeleben St. in Auburn.
Lunch begins at 11:45 and attendees shoud bring their own. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. The program begins at 12:15 p.m.
The series is made possible by a grant from the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and is cosponsored by the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities. The program is open to the public at no charge.
OLLI at Auburn is a program of the Office of the Vice President for University Outreach at Auburn University. OLLI administrative offices and select classes are located at the historic Sunny Slope property at 1031 S. College St.
