Scott E. Fischer
Memorial service for Scott E. Fischer was held at First Presbyterian Church, Auburn, Jan. 24, 2015, at 2 p.m. Family received friends after the service.
Scott passed away on Jan. 21, 2015 at Bethany House, surrounded by loving family, after a lengthy illness. Scott was born in Hillsboro, Ill., on June 1, 1955, the son of Noel and Olyne Fischer.
Survivors include his loving son, Stuart, daughter-in-law, Allison, and granddaughter, Bonnie Grace. Also surviving are Scott’s mother, Olyne; three brothers, Ken (Lisa) of Orange, Calif., Gary (Chell) of Bay Minette and James of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Scott was educated at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Scott earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University and a Masters in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology. He was IT Director in the School of Architecture Design in Auburn University prior to having a stroke in 2007.

Louie Eldridge Letlow
Louie Eldridge Letlow, 85, passed away at East Alabama Medical Center Jan. 25, 2015, of cardiac arrest.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Opelika with the Rev. Randall Woodham officiating. Visitation began at noon in the church Fellowship Hall, lasting until the funeral hour.
He was born in Lee County on Aug. 7, 1929, to the late Leonard T. and Izora Freeman Letlow. He grew up in the Pepperell Village and graduated from Clift High School in Opelika. He furthered his education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, with a degree in Industrial Management.
Louie was an outstanding athlete at Clift High School under the coaching of the late Sam Mason. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. One of his assignments was to play on the baseball team at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He was an outstanding hitter and first baseman. Upon discharge from the military, he continued to play professional baseball, rising to Class A in the Western League, based in Wichita, Kansas. In the off seasons he continued his studies at Alabama Polytechnic Institute.
Following graduation in 1959, he spent the next 32 years first employed by Ampex Corporation then by Diversified Products Corporation, both in Opelika. After his retirement in 1992, he enjoyed raising beef cattle and gardening at the farm in Salem.
Mr. Letlow is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Betty; son Les T. Letlow (Linda) of Auburn, son Doug of Buford, Ga., and daughter Jane Lawrence (Chris) of Spartanburg, S.C. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Allison and Kristen Lawrence of Charleston, S.C., Grayson Letlow of Auburn, and Austin and Olivia Letlow of Buford, Ga; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Letlow of Seale; together with a niece and six nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Royce Letlow, Robert Letlow, Mattie Schubert and Sarah Quinton.
Mr. Letlow was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His love for baseball and football was passed on to his sons and grandsons. He was an avid Auburn football fan as well.
As the grandchildren were growing up “Daddy Lou” did fun things with them, including pond fishing. Mr. Letlow was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Opelika and the Poe-Cumbie Sunday School Class.

Herschel Alexander Booth Jr.
Herschel Alexander Booth Jr., was born June 14, 1925, in Frederickburg, Va. He passed away on Jan. 21, 2015, in Jackson, Miss. He was the first of six children born to Herschel Alexander Booth Sr., and his wife Nancy Vesta (Coleman) Booth.
Herschel grew up in Opelika and attended Clift High School. He attended 1st Methodist Church in Opelika and always had a love for that church and the people in it. He served during World War II in the South Pacific in the 167th Regiment of the 31st Dixie Division. He graduated in 1950 from the Alabama Polytechnic Institutue with a degree in Accounting.
In 1954 Herschel married Anne Williams, from Opelika. They had one son, James Frederick, in 1955. They have lived most of their married life in Jackson, where he and his wife were faithful members of St. Matthew’s Methodist Church.
Some of Herschel’s interests included gardening and woodworking. He especially enjoyed traveling with Anne and their friends. Herschel worked with Fireman’s Fund Insurance until his retirement in 1988.
A graveside service was held for Mr. Booth Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. in Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika. Officiating was the Rev. Charles Cummings from Auburn United Methodist Church.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial in honor of Mr. Booth may give to their own church or to any Animal Rescue or Humane Society.

Sidney Morris Foster
Funeral service for Sidney Morris Foster, 75, of Opelika was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Providence East Baptist Church. Dr. Rusty Sowell officiated. Burial was held in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Mr. Foster was born April 20, 1939, in Tallapoosa County. He passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, in Columbus, Ga. Mr. Foster had been a resident of Opelika for 48 years. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and retired from Uniroyal in Opelika. He was a devoted husband and daddy.
Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Foster and brother James Foster.
Survivors include sons Sidney Clint (Julia) Foster, Jeffery Michael (Beth) Foster and daughter Melissa (Lester) Pollard, all of Opelika; grandchildren Justin (Jamie) Foster, Wade (Katie) Foster and Hillary White, all of Opelika, and Jared (Lauryn) Ledbetter of Bethany, La., Amanda Smith and Madison Pollard; great-grandchildren Carson Foster, Kinzlee Foster and Baylor, Kolby and Addie Ledbetter; and sister Earvy McGhar of Clanton.

Virgil Perry Woodall II

Virgil Perry Woodall II “Lt. Woodall,” 68, of Valley, died Dec. 23, 2014, at his home of a heart attack.
Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. CST (5 p.m. EST) Jan. 29, 2015, at Concord Baptist Church, 321 Lee Rd 251 Salem.
Perry was born in Princeton, Ky., to the late Virgil Perry Woodall and Jean Frances Jarvis Sept. 20, 1946. He moved to Fort Benning, Ga., as a little boy, where he later graduated Baker High School in 1965 then attended Columbus College. He was in management at Zales Corporation until he began his career in law enforcement in 1981.
Perry served his community as a Lee County sheriff’s deputy patrolman and DARE officer for Lee County schools until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of the local FOP.
Perry is survived by his son Brad Woodall and Brad’s mother Martha Woodall, daughter-in-law Vena Woodall, two grandsons James and Jackson Woodall, sister Nancy Guess of Princeton, Ky., nephew Greg Guess of Ohio, nephew Eric Guess of Louisville, Ky., niece Robin and husband Rodney Hanna of Smiths Station, grandnieces, a grandnephew, a great-grandnephew and other family, close friends and lots of former DARE kids.
