Letter to the Editor

John Archibald of the Birmingham News in his Sunday, October 23, 2011 column entitled “Alabama corruption comes in many forms” conveniently omitted the fact that unlike Scott Beason and Benjamin Lewis, Milton McGregor and eight other innocent defendants have gone through a ten week trial with the following results:

Thanks to a very courageous juror, Teresa Tolbert, who came forward and interviewed with the Associated Press, we now know the facts of the results of the bingo trial. Initially, the federal government gang from Washington, DC charged the defendants with 138 counts. Judge Myron Thompson tossed 14 of those charges as they were pure nonsense. Let’s take a look at the jury verdicts of the remaining 124 charges:

91 – Not Guilty
33 – No Verdict
0 – Guilty
Per the juror (Teresa Tolbert), the jury vote for 32 charges was 8 to 4 in favor of the defendants. On the

remaining one charge the vote was 11 to 1 in favor of the defendants.

Sincerely,

Judy Jones, Dalevale, Ala.
