LEE COUNTY — Lee-Russell Public Transit offers free transportation services for residents in Auburn, Opelika, Lee County and Russell County.
The service is operated through the Lee-Russell Council of Governments and is open to the general public. No medical authorization or physician certification is required.
Lee-Russell Public Transit operates an on-demand service in designated areas within Auburn, Opelika, Lee County and Russell County. The Phenix City Express also operates ADA paratransit service with complementary fixed routes. All services are provided free of charge.
LRPT provides curb-to-curb service. Drivers may assist passengers into the vehicle from the curb if needed, and passengers are asked to share any special needs when scheduling a ride so an accessible bus can be arranged. Drivers are not allowed to enter a home, garage or office building when picking up or dropping off passengers.
Service is available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. Monday through Friday, except listed holidays. The last pickup is at 5:30 p.m.
Passengers may schedule trips Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. by calling (334) 749-9092. Trips may be scheduled up to two weeks in advance, and passengers must schedule at least one business day before transportation is needed. Reservations are based on availability.
Pickup times may vary by 30 minutes. For example, a scheduled 9 a.m. pickup could arrive between 8:45 and 9:15 a.m. Passengers should be ready to board when the bus arrives. Drivers are allowed to wait five minutes past the scheduled pickup time. If a bus arrives late, the driver will wait five minutes past the arrival time before leaving for the next destination.
Individuals younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult older than 18, unless an exception is approved by the transit director.
Holiday closures include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Additional holiday closings may be announced through various forms of media.
