He spent most of his career involved in the textile industry, retiring as the director of human resources for Amoco Fabrics and Fibers. He lived his life by the code of teaching a man to fish, not giving a man a fish, and was always willing to help those who were willing to help themselves. He gave everyone dear to him a nickname, and if you’re one of those lucky people, I’m sure you know yours. He was an avid golfer, a rag-time pianist, and enjoyed a host of one-liners. Nearing the end of his life, his sense of humor in tact, he told his daughters, “If I get there first, I’ll draw a line, and if you get there first, you draw a line.”

Don spent his last five years surrounded by his daughters and all of their friends who came to know and love him. There will be a private ceremony, and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bethany House of Auburn.
