At the beginning of February, one man had a vision: believers coming together in worship on Samford Lawn.

Soon, Russell Goldfinger’s dream will become reality. Grab a blanket and head over to Worship on the Lawn on Aug. 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. All ages are welcome to this free event.

“The only thing that matters about any of this is that we honor God. End of story,” Goldfinger said. “It doesn’t matter if this lawn is full or if only two people show up.”

First, when Goldfinger had the idea, he was hesitant. Then, he talked to event organizer Savannah Woodwall and realized they had the same vision. This sparked Goldfinger’s passion to make this event a reality.

“What was put on my heart was to remind people that we must come together,” Goldfinger said. “This is only going to work if a bunch of us come together and make it happen.”

Instead of having the event in the beginning of summer, Goldfinger thought it was crucial to include upcoming Auburn students.

“Wouldn’t it be great if these kids [Auburn students] coming from other countries and cities … have their first experience on campus be a night of worship,” Goldfinger said.

He wants everyone to feel welcome and provide an outlet for community.

“The idea is to remind people that the body of Christ is much bigger than four walls,” he said.

The night will include worship and a recitation of various scriptures. Some of the passages consist of the Sermon on the Mount, Colossians, Hebrews and much more.

Another organizer for the event, Kristin Morrison expressed nothing but excitement for Worship on the Lawn.

“He [God] wants everybody in the kingdom of heaven, and this is what we’re hoping this event will represent” Morrison said.
