In Mrs. Rickles fourth grade at Trinity, the students recently prepared presentations of historical figures to give for their classmates.
Parents and grandparents were also welcomed as audience members during “Bio Day.” Each student dressed as the person he or she was representing and gave a speech about the life and importance of each figure. e biographies included Harry Houdini, Laura Ingalls Wilder, J.R.R. Tolkien, George Washington Carver, omas Jefferson, Molly Pitcher, Florence Nightingale, Daniel Boone, Johnny Appleseed, Sacagawea, Abraham Lincoln, eodore Roosevelt, Annie Oakley, Babe Ruth, Walt Disney, Robert E. Lee, Betsy Ross, Albert Einstein, Davy Crockett, Abigail Adams, Winston Churchill, and Benjamin Franklin.
e fourth graders, as part of their genre-based reading, had been reading biographies and were able to choose a figure to read about and present.
‘Bio Day’ gave students the opportunity to connect reading and history in a creative and exciting way while sharing their knowledge with others.
