Spring Football

Opelika coach Brian Blackmon used the spring game to judge where his team was before heading to summer workouts. Blackmon was happy with his defense and concerned about the offense.

The Dawgs used two inexperienced quarterbacks — and you could tell. Freshman Mathew Christian and sophomore B.J. White splits snaps at quarterback. Both are great athletes and good players. The two of them will continue to get better during summer workouts. Opelika will participate in several seven on seven passing camps that will help improve the two quarterbacks.

Coach Blackmon will continue to look for more running backs. Last year’s quarterback, Calvin Bryant, started at running back last Friday night. The entire coaching staff will have time to get the Dawgs ready for the 2012 season.

Summer Athletic Camps

The Athletic Department will host two camps this summer. Head girls basketball coach Devin Booth and head baseball coach Scott Sullivan are hosting camps at the end of May and beginning of June. Both camps are for kids who are young and want to learn more about basketball and baseball.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in these camps, please call the main office at (334) 745-9715. Leave your name and information and someone will call you back.

Honors

I want to congratulate Jasmine Sydnor for signing a softball scholarship to Southern Union State Community College. As a senior, Jasmine broke the OHS homer un record and was a key player on a very good team.

Tonight at 8 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium, the class of 2012 will graduate from Opelika High School. I want to congratulate all of our seniors and wish you the best in your future.

Please don’t forget OHS and the great times each of you had while growing up.

Opelika Dixie Boys
