Last Wednesday, I was tasked with a tough job assignment: eat lunch and review my dining experience at Opelika’s newest burger, wing and pizza joint, Will’s Eatery.
Located in the back of the Solo gas station on Crawford Road on Highway 169, the restaurant opened in January, and is owned and operated by Lee County locals William Childers and Dena Phillips.
The menu at Will’s Eatery offers a variety of eating options: specialty pizzas, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, and tasty appetizer options like jalapeno poppers and cheese sticks.
Being an avid foodie with a big appetite, I ordered a seven-inch personal pizza sprinkled with mushrooms (my all-time favorite pizza topping) and 10 chicken wings.
The pizza was phenomenal. The crust was doughy, and the sauce, cheese and mushrooms tasted fresh and delicious.
I halved my wing order, choosing five covered with hot sauce and the other five barbecue.
The hot wings made my taste buds catch on fire. The sauce, made by Childers himself, truly lived up its ‘hot’ billing. The barbecue sauce was the perfect mixture of smoky, sweet and savory, and helped put out the flames of the hot wings I had eaten just moments before. They were meaty, and extremely tender.
Costing only $9.44, including a bottled water, the meal provided generous portions of quality food for an inexpensive price, and I left feeling full, something that does not happen too often.
Every aspect of my eating experience was beyond satisfactory. The customer service was impeccable and attentive, and the food was delicious. Childers said most, if not all of what he makes, is fresh and made to order, not frozen, and his product reflected that.
I would rate my experience at Will’s 4.5 out of 5 stars. I plan on returning for a second visit, and will recommend it to anyone looking for some quality eats at an affordable price in the Opelika/Spring Villa area.
Will’s Eatery’s address is 823 Crawford Road in Opelika.
