This week the Opelika City Council recognized the Opelika High School Competition Cheerleading squad for its accomplishments this year.
Among other things, the squad qualified to compete at the national level in Orlando, which is significant, particularly since this was the first year for Opelika to have a competition squad in almost 20 years.
The support for this group, from the Opelika High School administration, the city of Opelika, the OHS Booster Club, the Opelika Observer, and various individuals and businesses, has been overwhelming.
As a parent of one of the cheerleaders, I want to thank all of those who have offered encouragement, recognition, and financial support to help these kids reach their goal of competing at the national level. Without your support, this would not have been possible.
The great community support that Opelika provides for its schools in all areas–athletic, academic, the arts– is part of what makes Opelika a great place to live.
