Special to the Opelika Observer

Last night, the Opelika Police Department received information regarding possible threats relating to Opelika High School. A threat had been made online by a juvenile who was chatting while playing a video game. The threat made was to “shoot up OHS”. OPD members and FBI agents were able to locate the suspect’s residence.

OPD detectives along with FBI agents, went to the address and located the 16-year-old suspect. The juvenile suspect was arrested and charged with Making a Terrorist Threat. He was taken to the Lee County Youth Development Center pending a hearing in Juvenile Court. Investigation did not locate any credible plan of action on the suspect’s part and there appears no present danger to students of the Opelika City Schools.

The Opelika City School Systems Administration was informed of the information and is working very closely with OPD to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.
