Old 280 Boogie is celebrating their 20-year anniversary with a three-night concert. Located at the Standard Deluxe in Waverly, Alabama, the event will take place April 16-18.
Old 280 Boogie was started 20 years ago on the one-year anniversary of state Highway 280 opening up and routing around the town.
“They were building in the late ‘90s, and it opened up in the year 2000,” owner Scott Peek said. “In the year 2001, we had a street party in downtown Waverly where Standard Deluxe used to be, where our little store was. It was free for 10 years and running off of donations then we moved it to my current location, and 10 years later here it is.”
The three-night concert kicks off on Friday with Boogie Pre-Night. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the music starting at 6:30 p.m. Jimbo Mathus and The Pine Hill Haints will be performing with Kidd Black Disco Show. Saturday is the main event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lillie Mae, Jimbo Mathus, Cedric Burnside and the Pine Hill Haints will be performing. Sunday will be the first ever Boogie Brunch. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Christopher Paul Stelling and Cedric Burnside will be performing with Kidd Black Disco Show.
“We’ve done a pre-night several times,” Peek said. “A concert the night before. We’ve never done a brunch… I’m really looking forward to that. We’re planning a lot more events … things coming up this year that we are going to be hosting.”
There will also be a number of vendors throughout the venue.
All tickets are general admission, and tickets are free for children under the age of 14. Each person can choose individual day tickets or the three-day pass. Tickets purchased from the previous year are transferred to the new date due to COVID-19.
There will be no physical tickets after purchase, but wristbands will be given at Will Call on the day of.
Everyone is asked to wear a mask upon entry and when moving throughout the venue. All social distancing rules must be followed.
“We are going to be at probably a third of capacity even if that,” Peek said. “Total between 400 and 500 people on Saturday, and I would imagine the pre-night and the brunch would be maybe 100 to 200 at most. We are an open-air venue. We have a super great, big, huge, grassy lawn. A few hundred folks is plenty of room for people to move around.”
