The OHS track team participated in the Georgia Tech Coaches Invitational last weekend. The meet was a combination high school and college meet.

Two student athletes from Opelika earned first place finishes. Jakayla Hand won the triple jump with a jump of 37-feet 1-inch and Tony Philpot finished first in the discus with a throw of 157-feet 10 inches.

Girls: The girls 4×100 relay team finished sixth in the meet with a season’s best time of 48.88 seconds, which is the fastest time in Alabama this year. Kayla Spinks, Annissa Lewis, Brittney Johnson and Jakayla Hand are the members of this relay team.

Annissa Lewis is ranked third in the state in the 100-meter-dash and 18th in the long jump. Jakayla Hand is currently fourth in the state in the triple jump, eighth in the 200-meter-dash and 35th in the state in the 100-meter-dash. Emma Garner is ranked sixth in the state in the 1600 meters. Breonna Lockhart is ranked 21st in the state in the 300 meter hurdles.

Ashley Alvis is eighth in the state in the discus and 12th in the shot put.

Boys: Cordaryal Whitehead is seventh in the state in the 1600 meters and 17th in the 800 meter run. Cortez Vaughn is 26th in the state in the 110-meter-hurdles and 14th in the 300-meter-hurdles. Vashon Landers is third in the 300-meters-hurdles, 16th in the high jump and 26th in the 200-meter-dash. Terrence Pressley is currently ranked 46th in the high jump, 42nd in the long jump and 24th in the triple jump. Trevor Todd is 44th in the 100-meter-dash.

Tony Philpot is third in discus, second in the shot put and 34th in the javelin.

Gerron Sexton is 12th in the shot put. Darien Jackson is 33rd in shot put. The boy’s 4×100 meter relay team is ranked seventh. Trevor Todd, Vashon Landers, Kenjuan Thompson and Cortez Vaughn are the members of the relay team. The 4x 400 meter relay team is also ranked seventh. Team members are Thomas Hill, Brandon Taylor, Deshun Pullian and Jacari Luckey. The 4×800 relay team is ranked eighth in the state. The team consists of Cordaryl Whitehead, James Ray Thrash, Kane Barrett and Shakiel Parker.
