GIRLS
BASKETBALL
The Opelika girls basketball team finished the regular season against 7A rivals Smiths Station and Auburn last week.
The Lady Bulldogs blew out SS 77-15 on Senior Night last Tuesday at the OHS Sports Arena last week.
Alexis Browning scored a game-high 10 points. All 12 players scored.
Opelika lost 56-53 at Auburn last Thursday to finish the regular season with an 18-9 record. Quala Walton scored 13 points, and Anita Payne and Browning scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
It is worth noting that the Lady Bulldogs swept their 6A area and performed well against its old region opponents Auburn, Central and Smiths Station, finishing with a 4-1 record for the season.
BOYS
Opelika finished the regular season with losses to Pelham 59-43, Smiths Station 54-45 and Auburn 72-57.
The Dawgs traveled to Pelham for a rare 2 p.m. game. Opelika Coach John Wadsworth believes in a tough and challenging schedule, with this trip serving as an example. Jaylin Cumins scored 14 points and Trey Boone added 8 points for the Bulldogs.
Smiths Station’s nine-point win was aided by Opelika’s poor offensive showing in the first and fourth quarters.
Jorden Heard led Opelika with 21 points and Cumins added 9 points.
Opelika started slow at Auburn, trailing 17-4 after the first quarter.
Three players scored double figures: Taye Fields finished with 14 points, Trey Boone chipped in 11 and Jaylin Holloway contributed with 10.
