Mr. Robert Crawford Mayfield was born on April 6, 1951 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and died on October 23, 2017 at East Alabama Medical Center. Bob moved to Opelika in August, 1960 with his family. After graduating from Opelika High School he attended Auburn University and graduated in 1973 with a civil engineering degree. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Pat Smith. After living in Newnan, GA, they moved to Houston, TX where Bob pursued his MBA and their daughter, Kelly, was born. After a move to Charleston, SC they ended up in Atlanta, GA where Bob started his successful consulting company. After 32 years and many interesting and challenging projects, they moved back home to Opelika. Bob finally retired on August 31 of this year and was looking forward to building birdhouses with his granddaughter.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Ira C. and Loma B. Mayfield and a brother, William D. Mayfield.
Besides his wife, Pat, Bob is survived by his daughter, Kelly Mayfield; his adored granddaughter, Elizabeth Mayfield; brother, Jim Mayfield (Phyllis); and sister, Margaret Mayfield (Carlos). Bob also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who will miss him.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Garden Hills Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Rick Lane officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to First United Methodist Church of Opelika, 702 Avenue A, Opelika, AL 36801 or to East Alabama Food Bank, 375 Industry Drive, Auburn, AL 36832.
