Leila (Lil) Alice Flewellen Tatum
Leila(Lil) Alice Flewellen Tatum, a lifetime resident of Opelika,AL, passed away on August 19,2017, at East Alabama Medical Center. She was born in Eufaula, AL on February 23,1930, to William Crawford and Lena Hurt Flewellen. She was married for 66 years to Dr. Crawford Tatum, Sr who predecessed her.
Lil attended Auburn University. After her marriage in 1949, she became a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Opelika and was involved in numerous church and civic activities. She enjoyed playing bridge and multiple family activities. Her faith in Jesus Christ sustained her through her illness and caring for the people she loved.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. William Flewellen of Tupelo, MS, and her three children, Dr. Crawford Tatum Jr(Lynn), Dr. Tim Tatum ( Sara Jane), and Carol Tatum Wilbanks ( William)of Alexander City, 8 grandchildren, Crawford Tatum III ( Charmoin), Myles Tatum( Payton), John Tatum ( Emily Ann), Drew Tatum ( Reynolds),Katie Tatum Moore (Jared), Matt Tatum, Tatum Wilbanks Massey, Fuller Wilbanks (Morgan), and 8 Great grandchildren, Anslee Tatum, Leila Tatum, Myles Tatum Jr, Banks Tatum, Mary Berkley Tatum, Averie Massey, Sara Moore and Matthew Moore.
Funeral services were Monday, August 21 at 2:00 at First United Methodist Church of Opelika. Visitation was held in the fellowship hall from 12-2 pm on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations to the FUMCO missions will be appreciated at 700 Avenue Opelika, AL 36801. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home and Cremator directed.
