Mary Joyce Voss

 

Mary Joyce Voss, 83, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2014 in her hometown of Opelika, Alabama. Mary was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.

Mary was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas.  Mary was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.  She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband before settling on the family’s ranch in Cedar Creek, TX upon his retirement. After her husband passed, Mary then moved to Palm Desert, CA where she enjoyed playing golf with her loved ones and meeting new people at dance classes.  Mary enjoyed the remainder of her years in the quaint town of Opelika, Alabama where she enjoyed incredible friends, family and lived with her Daughter Cheri.

Mary is survived by her Sister; Marjorie Messina; Brother; Jack Myers, Daughter; Cheri Joseph, Son; Greg Warner, Grandchildren; Tiffany Wardlaw, James Joseph, Sarah Denny, Mary-Claire Flynn, Dina Thompson, Samantha Conover, Lindsay Butler and many Nieces, Nephews and Great-Grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her Husband; James M. Voss, Son; Anthony M. Leach, Brothers; Ronald Myers, Paul Myers and Richard Myers.

Alabama services were held at 10am Saturday June 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Opelika 301 S. 8th St. Opelika, AL 36801

Texas service will be held at 10am Monday July 7, 2014 at the Cedar Creek United Methodist Church 5630 FM 535 Cedar Creek, TX 78612.

In Lieu of flowers Mary would ask that any donations be made to the National Village Ladies Club Charity Fund, 3110 Quail Run Opelika, Alabama 36801 or to the Cedar Creek Child Care Center PO Box 364 Cedar Creek, Texas 78612.

Ralph D. Wamick

 

Funeral service for Ralph D. Wamick, 86, of Auburn was 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Parkway Baptist Church. Reverend Jeff Redmond officiated. Burial will be held in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Wamick was born January 12, 1928 in Elmore County. He passed away at UAB on Monday, June 30, 2014. Mr. Wamick had been an Auburn resident for the past 55 years. He was retired from Auburn University with 15 years service. Mr. Ralph was an active member of the Parkway Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Wamick in 2011.

Survivors include his son, Steve (Stephanie) Wamick of Auburn; daughter, Cathy (Danny) Cooper of Auburn; grandchildren, Lisa Cooper, Colton Wamick, David Foti, and Billy and Nancy Cooper.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Parkway Baptist Church in Ralph’s memory.

Peggy Jo Hunt

 

Peggy Jo Hunt, age 80 of Opelika, was born in McVeigh, Kentucky on November 2, 1933 and passed away at her home on June 29, 2014.

Mrs. Hunt was a secretary at Opelika High School before going to the Opelika Police Department to serve as Assistant to the Chief and Personnel Director until her retirement.     She was the first woman in Alabama to graduate from the Police Academy, and was the founder of the Opelika Police Department Youth Camp.  After retiring, she volunteered at Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years.

Mrs. Hunt was a loving wife of 60 years, loving mother of two sons, and the world’s greatest grandma known affectionately as “Ma.”  She was an incredible cook, enjoyed spending time at their Lake Martin home with family and friends, and enjoyed traveling with her sister.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond “Ray” Hunt; first cousin, Doris Hamilton; sons, Gary Hunt, DVM (Donna) and Michael Hunt (Connie); four grandsons, Ryan and Cameron Hunt, and their mother, Michelle Hunt, and Race and Raider Hunt; sister, Margaret L. Poore; niece, Cheryl Rock (Michael); grandnieces, Erin and Lisa Rock; and grandnephew, Tom Leckrone.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Garden Hills Cemetery, with Rev. Earl Ballard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Opelika Police Department Youth Camp, 501 South 10th Street, Opelika, Alabama 36801.

Jean Copeland Williams Hayes

 

Jean Copeland Williams Hayes passed on June 26, 2014.  Jean was the daughter of Rodney and Elizabeth “Bess” Copeland.  She was a loyal Auburn fan and with her husband Bob was active in Kiwanis and traveled extensively. When asked what she most enjoyed she would say raising her three boys.

Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert D. Hayes; her parents, Rodney Hugh and Elizabeth Salter Copeland; sister, Anne Copeland; and brother, Rodney Hugh Copeland, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Williams and wife Kathy; Glenn Williams and partner Katie Alfano, David Williams and wife Jennifer; granddaughters, Amy and husband Paul Snellings, Emily and husband Chip Karo; and Rachel Williams; great grandson, Will Snellings; and great granddaughters, Lauren Snellings and Peyton Karo.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Must Ministries in Marietta, Georgia.
