Oak Bowery Road and the new bridge across Rocky Brook Creek are now open to traffic. The bridge replacement on Oak Bowery Road, and roadway improvements on both sides of the bridge between Blackhawk Drive and Cannon Gate have been completed. Construction signs and barricades were removed earlier this week. Some minor work along the side of the road will continue for the next few days, and drivers are asked to be aware of any workers or equipment present and adjust driving accordingly. The new bridge and accompanying road work to make the approaches safer for both vehicles and pedestrians alike were completed ahead of schedule at a cost of approximately $1.25 million. Oak Bowery Road had been closed since the end of December 2014 from Gateway Drive on the north side to Blackhawk Drive on the south, resulting in a circuitous detour for travelers in that part of Opelika.
