Margaret Louise Hamer Murphy was born Jan. 17, 1928, in rural Eagle Grove, Iowa to Morris and Lea Hamer.

She began her secretarial career in Des Moines, Iowa where she met and later married George Lawrence Murphy, Jr., an engineering student at Iowa State University. After graduation and Tour of Duty with the Air Force, they moved back to Ames where their son, Mark Alan, was born. In January of 1955, they moved to Auburn, Alabama, where their daughter, Sherrie Ann was born. Margaret worked for many years at Auburn University in the College of Forestry and Athletics Departments. She retired from Craftmaster Printers, Inc. in 2001 after many years with the family business. Bridge was her favorite pastime and she belonged to many groups over the years. She loved her family and Auburn.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George Murphy; her parents, brothers Howard Hamer and Marvin “Bud” Hamer; sisters Doris Kubly and Norma Johnson and Sister-in-Law Alice Murphy.

She is survived by her two children: Mark A. Murphy (Cynthia) and Sherrie M. Stanyard (Larry) both of Auburn, her grandchildren Alice Murphy (LB) of Asheville, North Carolina, Jenna Morgan of Auburn, Kevin Murphy (Sally) of Florence, Alabama, Sherry Hurst (Richard) of Salem, Allen Stanyard of Blossvale, New York, Jason Morgan of Pell City, Alabama and sister Phyllis Bauman of Eagle Grove, Iowaand their families.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
