During Monday night’s Lee County Commission meeting, Commission Chairman and Probate Judge Bill English opened a discussion on holding future meetings in order to be able to hold public hearings and other agenda items that require in-person meetings. Following the discussion, the commissioners agreed that the next meeting scheduled to be held on May 13 at 5 p.m. will be held in the commission chambers. Chairs will be spaced out within the chamber to allow for appropriate social distancing of attendees. Furthermore, attendees are encouraged to wear masks during the meeting.
In other business, the commission:
• announced two positions for the Lee Co. Communications District (E911) Board as two positions will be expiring in late July
• approved a motion to ratify and approve the procurement claims and transactions
• approved a bid for a Polaris Ranger ATV from Motorcycle Sports in Munford, Alabama for a total price of $25,688.00 for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office
• approved a Bid from D & J Enterprises, Inc. for the construction of a minimum of 8.1 miles for the full depth reclamation, resurfacing and traffic striping on various public roads in the county. These projects will be funded with 100% county dollars, with approximately 60% of the funds coming from the Rebuild Alabama Act.

Following the meeting, English presented a powerpoint slideshow with COVID-19 stats. Lee County ranks in the top 10% (in Alabama) of both number of cases and number of deaths. Only three counties in the state rank in the top 10% in both categories with the other two being Chambers and Tallapoosa.
