John W. Thomas, Jr. was born on Dec. 2, 1945 in Opelika and went home to be with his Lord on May 28, 2021. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church and served in many capacities over the years. He served in the Navy from 1966-1970 and retired from the Naval Reserve after 20 years of service. He worked for West Point Stevens for 29 years and for Lee County Board of Education for 12 years until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Thomas, his mother, Lullene Jenkins Thomas and his sister, Nancy Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Thomas, his daughters, Terrie (Scott) Stanfield and Melanie Stanfield, grandchildren Scott Jr. (Kelsey), Elana, Micah, Melissa Shae, Sarah and Ryan, nine great-grandchildren, his brothers, Ray (Kay) Thomas and Steve (Connie) Thomas and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation was held on June 1 in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.
The funeral service was on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Opelika with Pastor Frank Chappell officiating.
Interment will be Thursday June 3, 2021 at 12:30 CST at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
