INDOOR TRACK
The Opelika High indoor track team won the Ice Breaker Invitational meet last weekend in Birmingham.
The Dawgs dominated the 30-team meet, winning the championship with 69.50 points. That is 20 points more than second place Hewitt-Trussville and third place Hoover.
Nate Huggins, Clemson signee, won the 400-meter sprint with a personal best and meet record time of 48.12 seconds.
Ben Garner placed third in the 3200-meter, Kacey Spinks finished third in the 400-meter, Jalin Marshall was fifth in the 400-meter, Hayden Washburn placed seventh in the 1600-meter, Jonathan Bizilia finished 19th in the 3200-meter, LaDarius Foreman finished 29th in 400-meter, Anatanavious Butler finished 12th in the 60-meter hurdles, Gregory Jackson was 39th in the 60-meter hurdles and Justin Lewis was 32nd in the 60-meter hurdles.
The first place finish by Opelika means the Bulldogs will be the favorite to win the AHSAA 6A indoor track championship.
GIRLS
BASKETBALL
The Opelika girls basketball team (11-10) improved to 3-0 in the area with wins over Benjamin Russell (68-30) and Valley (74-47).
Jaylen Snipes led the scoring in both games with 24 (BRHS) and 16 points (Valley).
Anita Payne scored 16 points against the Rams while teammate Alexis Sydnor added 10 points Tuesday night at the Sports Arena.
The girls host Auburn High Monday at 4:30 at the OHS Sports Arena.
BOYS
BASKETBALL
The Opelika boys basketball team, 10-8 overall, area 2-1, won back to back area games over Benjamin Russell (89-63) and Valley (75-52).
The Dawgs were led by Kingston Frazier in both games. The senior scored 21 points against BRHS and 19 points against VHS.
In the Benjamin Russell win, Jalen Kellum scored 19 points, and Kyle Fourtenbary added 13 points.
The Bulldogs led the Rams by 29 points in the second half before winning by 25. Jesse Baker scored 13 points, while Fourtenbary added 12.
The boys Host Auburn High Monday at 6:30 at the OHS Sports Arena.
