The Opelika City Council officially canvassed and recorded the results of last week’s municipal election in a special meeting yesterday.
Tiffany Gibson-Pitts and Oscar Penn will go head-to-head in a runoff election Oct. 4 for the Ward 2 council seat.
The council will hold an organizational meeting Nov. 7, during which the newly elected officials will be sworn in to office and will begin their new terms at the regular meeting Nov. 15.
According to information on the city’s website, absentee ballots for the runoff election must be postmarked by noon on Oct. 3 and received by Bob Shuman, election manager, by noon Oct. 4 or the ballots will not be counted. Voting will take place at the Opelika Learning Center, located at 214 Jeter Ave., and will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
