George Margavio, of New Orleans, La., was born on Dec. 4, 1939, and died at his home in Opelika on Dec. 28, 2011. He was 72 years old.

He worked with B. F. Goodrich in Birmingham. He was transferred to Uniroyal Goodrich, Michelin of Opelika. He was the shipping manager until he retired. He worked as a tax preparer for H & R Block (Sears).

Margavio was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Margavio; and his brother, Johnny Margavio. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ledbetter Margavio; his children, Tammy (Earl) Brandenburg, Lisa (Mark) Stiff, Steve (Susan) Margavio, Keith (Susan) Margavio, Lester “Lee” (Kim) Ledbetter, Stacey Rentfrow (David) Martin, and Tyler (Tina) Ledbetter; 17 grandchildren, Kristie Waters, Anthony Waters, Deanna Helms, Daniel Stiff, Steve Margavio Jr., Matthew Margavio, Stephen Margavio, Joseph Margavio, Christopher Margavio, Molly Stiff, Peyton Ledbetter, Ashlee (Dyron) Johnston, Hayley (Eric) Simpson, Alison (P.J.) Murphy, Rana Rentfrow, Chapman Ledbetter, Channing Ledbetter (expecting) and Jenny (Marty) Deavers; seven great grandchildren, Xander Johnston, Lilly Johnston, Anslee Johnston, Bentley Murphy, Presley Moody, Skylar Deavers and Ella Deavers; brother, Joe Margavio and family; sister, Maxine Burns and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
