One of the many programs sponsored by the Youth Activities Committee of the Auburn-Opelika Elk’s Lodge is the annual distribution of dictionaries to middle school students in Chambers and Lee County, public and private schools.

The student is instructed to enter their name in the space provided in the dictionary and, at the end of the day, place it in their backpack for use during the evening. The dictionary project was begun locally by the Elk’s Lodge in 2005 and more than 19,000 books have been donated to the students to date.

Shown above are Elk members Jerry Spivey, Jackie Thomaston, Blake Epperson, and John Askew and some of the students who received their dictionaries at Sanford Middle School.
