Ryan Paul Pope

1985-2012

 

Ryan Paul Pope, age 27, of Auburn, was born in Marengo County, on March 16, 1985, and passed away in Decatur on April 10.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charlie Howard Pope. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Ann Pope; three sisters, Chasity (Jason) Broadhead of Linden, Megan (Bo) Pierce of Decatur and Wesley Ann (Steve) Terry of Pineapple; grandmother, Margaret Hasty Pope of Dixon’s Mill; great grandmother, Vermelle Johnson Cranford of Sweetwater; great-aunt, Glenda Johnson Waldrop of Sweetwater; as well as several nieces, nephews cousins and other family members.

A memorial service was held on April 14, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the UAB Children’s Hospital, Gift Records, AB 1230, 1530 3rd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL, 35294.

Jonathan Lovelace 1983-2012

 

A funeral service for Jonathan Lovelace, 28, of Auburn was at 10 a.m. on April 13, at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Reverend Al Jackson officiated. Burial was held in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.

Lovelace was born on July 20, 1983, in Opelika. He died on April 10. He was a resident of Lafayette, and lived in Auburn since 1988. He was a carpenter by occupation and worked in residential construction. Jonathan enjoyed writing music and playing the guitar. He was studying to become a landscape architect, enjoyed his friends and the family cat.

Survivors include parents, Richard and Jan Lovelace of Auburn; brother, Mark (Candi) Lovelace of Opelika; and two nephews, Jordan and Pate Lovelace of Opelika.

Jerry Linder 1937-2012

 

Jerry Linder, age 75, of Auburn, formerly of Washington and Colorado, was born in Denver, Colo. on March 1, 1937, and passed away in Opelika on April 17 at East Alabama Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Tori Linder; daughters, Debus Frey, Sharon Linder and Liz Marquez and husband Dana; son, Rodney Linder; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home. Brother Chett Williams officiated.

Linder was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and mentor; and will be missed by all. War Eagle!

Daniel D. Nichols 1943-2012

 

On April 16, Dan Nichols lost his match with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Dan was born April 15, 1943, in rural Fayette County, to Carey C. Nichols and Vera B. (Hollingsworth) Nichols.

Dan loved and attended Auburn University, earning degrees in Aeronautical Administration, Civil Engineering and a Masters of Business. Dan received an R.O.T.C. Commission to the Army in March 1966. He served during the Vietnam War flying helicopter gunships. During his military active duty service, he met and married Sharon Louise Burke, a registered nurse from Wichita, Kan., and graduate of Wichita State University/Wesley Medical Center School of Nursing.

Dan maintained active reserve status in the Army and later in the Air Force until he retired in March 1994. In June 1977, Dan accepted a Civil Service position as a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Federal Civil Service in January 2006. In 2006, Dan and Sharon moved back to Auburn, which they always called home.

Dan enjoyed serving in the Auburn Rotary Club, fishing, golfing, and helping friends. Sharon and Dan have a son Ryan B., and daughter-in-law Stacy, in Washington, D.C. and a son Lane P. and daughter-in-law Jenny with grandson Connor Daniel in San Diego, Calif.

Dan is survived by his siblings Aubrine Nichols in Fayette, Marie Earnest in Opelika and Charlotte Moore in Fayette. Preceding Dan in death are his parents and siblings; Jesse Nichols, J.C. Nichols, Leslie Nichols and Frank Nichols.

Dan and Sharon wish to thank all their many friends, neighbors, caregivers and medical personnel for their love and assistance. A private celebration of life is planned.

Dorothy E. Waller 1931-2012

 

Dorothy E. Waller, age 81, of Warner Robins, Ga., was born in the Little Texas community of Macon County on March 16, 1931, to the late Jessie C. and Catherine Whitman. She passed away at Peachbelt Health and Rehab on April 17, in Warner Robins. She retired as supervisor from Peachbelt Nursing Home in Warner Robins.

Waller was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Waller; son, Eddie Waller; brother, Cecil Whitman; and niece, CeCe Whitman.

She is survived by her son, Donnie Waller and wife Sharon; daughter, Doris Sylvester and husband Terry; sister, Avis Young and husband Gene; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A funeral service was held on April 21, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Cowart officiated. Interment followed in Garden Hills Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

Pallbearers included Mrs. Waller’s grandsons and great grandsons.

Doris E. Bell 1924-2012

 

A funeral service for Doris E. Bell, 87, of Auburn was held at 11 a.m. on April 23, at Lakeview Baptist Church. Reverend Al Jackson officiated. Burial was held at 4 p.m. on Monday at Ashford, Alabama City Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.

Bell was born May 20, 1924, in Houston County. She passed away at her home on April 20. She had been a resident of Auburn for the past 54 years. Mrs. Bell was a lady of multiple talents including sewing and carpentry. She graduated from Auburn University where she discovered her love of sculpture and painting. Doris was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church and shared her faith with many over the years.

She was preceded in death by their son, Ronnie Bell and her sisters and brother.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Dr. Sidney C. Bell; their daughters, Betty Parker and Bonnie Clark; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Joe B. Raiford 1936-2012

 

Joe B. Raiford, age 75, of Opelika, was born in Lowndes County on July 28, 1936, and passed away at the Bethany House on April 23, in Auburn.  He was of the Baptist faith. He was born to the late John and Mary Raiford.

Raiford is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Raiford; daughter, Cindy Wright and her husband Glynn; son, Billy Raiford and his wife Sharon; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on April 25, at 3:30 p.m. at Garden Hills Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Bullard officiated.

Visitation was held prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Fredericks Funeral Home.
