Lt. Colonel Oliver Stevens Lang 1916-2012
Lt. Colonel Oliver Stevens Lang, retired, passed away on Feb. 12. He was born on Feb. 29, 1916, in Walthourville, Ga.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nora Melinda England Lang, his son Steven Marcy Lang of Auburn, his daughter Robin Lang Krchak and her husband Robert and their children Evan and Jenni of Mobile.
Lang was a graduate of Bob Jones University and later attended the University of Illinois. He entered the Army Air Corp in 1941 and served as a B-29 pilot with the Pacific Campaign. He continued service in the Air Force for 35 years, at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was an honorary member of the Ogletree Outing Club.
Lang was buried on Feb. 13, 2012, at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery at a private graveside service attended by family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Park Retirement and Nursing Home in Auburn.

Calvin Leon Scott 1936-2012
Funeral service for Calvin Leon Scott of Evanston, Ill. was held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4, at Peterson and Williams Chapel with interment at Liberty Church Cemetery in Lafayette. William Stinson officiated.
Scott was a graduate of Chambers County Training School and Alabama A&M University. He was employed for 20 years with the United States Postal Service. He retired in 1992.
He passed away on Jan. 30, with family by his side at Evanston Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Johnnie Mae Stinson Scott of Evanston, Ill; his daughter, Khedra (Vince) Scott-Edwards; granddaughter, Kynnedi Edwards; all of Arlington Heights, Ill.; two brothers, John Lewis (Dr. Cassie Luke) Scott of Town Creek and Milford (Annette) Scott of Phenix City; three sisters, Ida Jackson of Lithonia, Ga., Mildred Cheeks of Evanston, Ill. and Beatrice (John) Coley of Montgomery; and a special niece, Ann (Walter) Smith of Montgomery.
He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins to cherish his memory.
Merritt Scott 1933-2012
Merritt Scott, of Beauregard, was born in Lemon, Penn. on Sept. 18, 1933, and died at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika on Feb. 8.
Scott was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. He was 78 years old and was born to the late Marshall and Matilda Scott.
Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Scott; brother, Willard Scott; and sister, Romayne Anderson. He is survived by his daughter, Lou (Mac) Walden; stepson, Eddie Clay; granddaughter, Crystal (Joey) Walters; grandson, Justin Walden; step-grandsons, Sterling Clay and Chance Clay; and step-granddaughters, Kiersty and Kaci Clay; two sisters and one brother; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home. The Reverend Harvey Miller officiated. Interment followed in Garden Hills Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Feb. 9, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Fredericks Funeral Home. Fredericks Funeral Home directed.
John Frank Sanders 1934-2012
John Frank Sanders, age 77 of Opelika, was born in Opelika on May 5, 1934, and passed away at Bethany House in Auburn on Feb. 8. He was born to the late Wallace and Willie Dale Sanders. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed working in his flower garden and cooking for his family.
Sanders was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Sanders and W. C. Sanders.
He is survived by his daughters, Roxanne Daughtry (Carey) and Francine Tucker both of Opelika; granddaughters, Christy Daughtry Smith (Jason) of Louisiana, and Natalie Daughtry Downs (Chris) of Auburn; grandsons, Travis Tucker and Brad Chandler; great granddaughters, Samantha Smith and Sara Smith both of Louisiana; sisters, Alma Young (William) of Opelika and Lovie Stephenson of Washington; brother, Virgil Sanders of Opelika; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Fredericks Funeral Home. Reverend John Dale Rector officiated. Interment followed in Rosemere Cemetery.
Visitation was held prior to the service from 1 p.m. until the funeral.

Jeanette G. Malone 1916-2012
A funeral service for Jeanette G. Malone, age 95, of Opelika was held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 10, at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel. Reverends David Warren and Earl Ballard officiated. Burial was held in Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
Malone was born on Nov. 23, 1916. She went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 7. Malone was a native of Frisco City, and was raised in Pensacola, Fla. She moved to Opelika in 1995 and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles A. Malone.
Survivors include her children, Charles Michael Malone (Shirley) of Austin, Texas, Donna M. Kemp (George) of Opelika; grandchildren, Matthew Malone, Michelle Malone Stewart, Paul S. Kemp (Leigh), David M. Kemp (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Kaylon Stewart, Angie Schumacher, Timmy Schumacher, Sam M. Kemp, Erin R. Kemp, Addison T. Kemp, and Avery J. Kemp.

Dorothy Martin 1919-2012
Dorothy Martin, 93, of Opelika passed away on Feb. 2, at Bethany House. She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Fairhaven, Mass. She grew up in Machiasport, Maine, and maintained a lifelong interest in the Machiasport Historical Society. She graduated from Simmons College, Boston, Mass. in library science. She met her husband Richard B. Martin while working as a librarian at Clark University, Worchester, Mass.
The family moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn. in 1954, where they raised their children. Martin was a housewife, mother, librarian, Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, and longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn. where she served on the Vestry for several years. In her retirement she spent a great deal of time as a volunteer to read for the blind. She moved to Auburn in 2006 to be near her children, mostly living at Monarch Estates.
Martin is survived by her children, Lawrence (Karyn) Martin of Ormond Beach, Fla., Richard (Katherine) Martin of Auburn, Jean Martin of Greenville, S.C., Janet (George) Darfus of Natchitoches, La.; grandchildren, Beth Ann (Rick) Palardeau of Boston Spa, N.Y., April Martin of N.Y., Joe (Angela) Martin of Murphy, N.C., Jerry (Jamie) Martin of Wilmington, Del., John (Elizabeth) Martin of Auburn, Robyn Martin of Hazlet, N.J., Heather (Jason) Towhig of Hazlet, N.J., Melissa Martin of Hazlet, N.J.; step grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Donald of Las Vegas, NV, Mathew (Ginger) Donald of Daphne, Brian Donald of Auburn, Janine Glassman of Charlotte, N.C., Nicole Glassman of Charlotte, N.C.; and numerous great grandchildren, and others who called her their “Grammy.”
The family received visitors in the foyer of Trinity Lutheran Church at noon with a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Feb. 11. Reverend Doctor Katherine Martin officiated. Interment was next to her childhood home in Churchill Cemetery, Machiasport, Maine.
