Opelika High Baseball Coach Scott Sullivan resigned his position last Tuesday morning. Sullivan, former Auburn University and major league player, took the job two years ago.

Sullivan’s 2013 team finished 15-17 and was one game away from making the playoffs.

He told his players of his decision after their workout Tuesday morning.

Opelika Athletic Director Coach Brian Blackmon spoke with me about the job Coach Sullivan did the last two years.

“Our baseball program is better off today than when he arrived two years ago. I can’t say enough about the way Scott handled the kids and our baseball program,” Blackmon said.

I would like to reiterate what Coach Blackmon said. Coach Sullivan is a class act and our baseball program improved under his leadership. I want to wish Scott and his family the best of luck in the future.

Opelika City Schools officials have not issued a formal statement at press time. Dr. Mark Neighbors and Dr. Ferrell Seymore were out of town when the news broke.

Stay tuned for details.

OHS Football

The OHS football team travelled to Enterprise yesterday to participate in a two-day camp at Enterprise High School. Three other schools made the trip to Enterprise to participate in the camp.

This is second year in a row we have gone to Enterprise. The teams stay on campus during the camp, even sleeping in the gym.

Coach Blackmon uses this as a bonding trip as well as improving our team.

OHS continues to work out trying to get ready for fall practice.

Opelika High School welcomes Rick Wade to its coaching staff. Coach Wade has been at Beauregard the past six years as assistant football coach and baseball coach.
