Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller announced last week that an existing Opelika manufacturing company will be expanding. Cumberland Plastic Systems will be expanding its existing facility and investing more capital to build and expand its current facility.

“Our continued growth has come from both new customers and existing customers,” said Cumberland Chief Financial Officer Tim Kling. “Currently Cumberland employs 170 employees and this expansion will create 25 new team member positions which will fill warehousing, production and technical positions within the company.”

Cumberland Plastic Systems is located in Opelika’s Northeast Industrial Park along the I-85 corridor. The current facility has 155,000 square feet for injection molding and value-add assembly, housing 33 injection machines from 40 tons to 1,500 tons, as well as many assembly operations for varied customer applications. The planned $5.7 million expansion is for an additional 60,000 square feet of warehouse space and additional manufacturing equipment.

“We are delighted at the commitment Cumberland Plastic is making in our community,” Fuller said. “The success that warrants additional investment and the creation of additional jobs is proof that the company has outstanding leaders and staff in place.”
