In a special meeting last Friday, Oct. 24, the Opelika City Council approved a resolution approving the installation and maintenance of a traffic light at the intersection of US 280/431 and South Uniroyal Road. The resolution also approved payment of up to $30,000 for the purchase and installation of the signal. The installation will be performed by the Alabama Department of Transportation.

According to City Administrator Joey Motley, numerous residents had been calling him and other city officials expressing their concerns about the safety of the intersection and asking for the traffic signal.

Installation will begin the first week in November and should be completed in two to three weeks.

Motley told the commissioners that their actions will save at least two weeks in getting the traffic signal installed over waiting until the next council meeting to take action.
