The Rocky Brook Rocket project is $25,000 closer to completion – and the Depot has a new name.

The council approved Tuesday an agreement in which Alligare, LLC, will donate $25,000 over three years in exchange for the Rocky Brook Rocket Depot at the Municipal Park being renamed the Alligare Depot.

A relatively short council meeting was preceded by a relatively lenghty work session, in which the council heard from Market+Main’s Aaron Fortner, who presented his company ideas and plans for the Carter, Jeter and downtown areas. The five-year plan features street art, traffic circles, bike paths, workforce housing, new mobile home park rules and more.

The council, on the whole, agreed the plans were both overwhelming and exciting.

“I look forward to moving forward with this,” said Councilman Dozier Smith T.

“If we can follow the plan, it will make a lot of difference in our whole community,” agreed President Eddie Smith.

The council also:

– approved an emergency repair for a fire pumper truck.

– approved an anuual appropriation contract with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County in the amount of 57,500 – comprising a two-year funding commmitment to help fund a development officer for the club.
