Looking for a different and fun way to celebrate Mother’s Day this year?

Opelika Parks and Recreation and the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center in Auburn can help.

For the mother and daughter duo’s out there, Opelika Parks and Rec is hosting a tea party on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. “I have a 7-year-old daughter so I’m always looking for things for her and I to do together,” said Mandy Johnson, event coordinator for Opelika Parks and Recreation.

The event is open to mothers and daughters of all ages and cost is $10. Wear your Sunday best for this outdoor tea party where you will enjoy snacks, arts & crafts and photo booths.

Registration at the Opelika SportsPlex ends May 5.

“I’m always kind of looking for things for little girls to do with etiquette,” Johnson said. “… Something that they can dress up, something that is a little more fancy. You know, learn manners, things like that.”

Another fun way to celebrate mom this weekend is reserved for the mother/son duos out there.

This Thursday and Friday, the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center and the city of Auburn are hosting “S’more Fun With Mom,” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This event is dubbed “Lee County’s mother/son adventure.”

For boys age 4 to 12 and their moms, this fun evening will include a night hike, cookout, storytelling and of course – s’mores! Mother and son duos will have the opportunity to visit a craft station and create their own keepsake art project, and a photographer will be on site to capture all the moments.

The cost for this event is $30 and registration is available online (http://wp.auburn.edu/preserve/programs/community-programs/) or on-site. The event will be rescheduled or cancelled in the event of rain, so be sure to watch the Auburn Opelika Tourism Facebook page for updates.
