Funeral service for Cecil Clyde Henderson of Opelika, Alabama, was held on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. The burial will be at Garden Hill Cemetery. Dr. Rusty Sowell officiated. Mr. Henderson, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021 at home, was born on May 15, 1939, in Opelika.

Cecil served in the United States Navy as a young man. When he returned, he began his career with West Point Stevens where he retired. He was a devoted and loving husband for 55 years to Betty Ford Henderson who preceded him in death in 2016.

He is also preceded in death by his mother Mary Lou Norrell, father William Nathan Henderson and brothers, William Jr., Richard (Buddy), Jim Frank (Pete), Woodrow Henderson and one sister, Mary Nell May.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth (Phoebe) Henderson; sister, Fannie Mae Grayson; children, Chris Henderson, Velinda (Michael) Hardy; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayla) Wheeles, Kristen (Jonathan) Sutton, Hannah Henderson, Lofton Wheeles, and Mary Grayson Henderson; great-grandchildren Cora and Eli Wheeles, Abigail and Jackson Sutton; daughter-in-law, Cindy Henderson; son-in-law, Donny Wheeles; very special sister-in-law, Marie Ford; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.
