The Opelika High School boys’ cross-country team, named the 2014 state runner-up in the AHSAA Class 6A Cross-Country competition, received special recognition from members of the Board of Education at Tuesday’s meeting.
OHS senior Ben Bryant, who captured the individual 6A Cross-Country Championship and had the best overall time in all classes, received special recognition.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Neighbors also congratulated cross-country team coaches Tony Benitez and Kristin Blatt.
In other business, the board approved a bid of $19,995 from Marshall Graphics System for video production equipment for the video classes at OHS.
According to Neighbors, the video production program is being transformed, with the objective to create higher level classes in video production.
The board gave approval for the Indoor Percussion Ensemble and the Winter Guard to participate in the Southeast Color Guard and Percussion Circuit Championship in Nashville, TN on March 27-28.
Chris Harrison, Chief School Finance Officer, gave the financial reports for September and October. He reported that the school system ended the fiscal 12 months with an excess of revenues over expenditures in the General Fund.
“We are in a good position,” he said. Board members also approved personnel recommendations of new hires and transfers.
