HealthPlus Fitness Center is organizing a one-mile walk called “Fit to Fight” to raise money for the Oncology Wellness Program at East Alabama Medical Center on May 11 from 8 a.m. to noon.
In addition to the celebration walk, there will be a silent auction, open house of HealthPlus, free chair massages, group fitness classes and skin cancer screenings, representatives from the hospital’s newly opened cancer center and nutrition services department and more.
All profits made from the Fit to Fight fundraiser help support this wonderful program by the staff and training costs of HealthPlus Fitness Center.
The Oncology Wellness Program is a collaboration of services provided by East Alabama Medical Center and is open to current cancer center patients before, during and after treatment. The program provides a complimentary 12-week membership to HealthPlus where the patient receives an orientation by a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, an individual exercise plan based on their individual needs and goals and orientation to the facility. The Oncology Wellness Program also includes massage therapy, nutritional counseling and stress management.
The walk will start at 9 a.m and go around the center’s beautiful pond and outdoor track. Registration will be held at HealthPlus Fitness Center, and there will be pre-registration on May 11 from 8 to 9 a.m. and is available online at www.runsignup.com. Those who register by May 3 will be guaranteed to receive an event T-shirt.
