Annual ‘Taste of Town’ to benefit museum

Great food from 15 local restaurants, wine and a silent auction will provide an entertaining evening at the Museum of East Alabama’s Taste of the Town Tuesday, April 21 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the museum on 9th Street in downtown Opelika. AuburnBank and the Opelika Observer are sponsors for this year’s event.
Restaurants participating in the tasting include Irish Bred Pub, Niffer’s, Jefferson’s, Amsterdam Café, Ma Fia’s, Jim Bob’s Chicken, Sweet Malisa’s, Jimmy’s, Martha Hicks’ Southern Hospitality Catering, Ursula’s Catering, Outback, Maestro 2300,  Gourmet Tiger, Zoe’s Kitchen and The Cup and Saucer.
The Warm Springs Winery and Hodges Winery will provide samples of their wines.
Kathy Penton is chairperson of the silent auction, which will offer an interesting variety of items this year.
Located at the site of the old Clement Hotel on 9th Street, the Museum of East Alabama officially opened Aug. 10, 1989. Volunteers kept the museum operating until funds were available to hire a director. Glenn Buxton is the current director.
Renovation of the main building and construction of the East Alabama at Work exhibits have been completed. The museum displays over 5,000 artifacts from the area’s past.
Enjoy an evening of wonderful food while helping to preserve the museum and artifacts, as they continue to provide a living history of the area’s past.
Tickets are $25 and are available at the museum and Southern Crossing.
The Museum of East Alabama is located at 121 S. 9th St. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday 2-4 p.m. The museum is closed Sundays and Mondays.
