Cochran
Jon Christopher “Chris” Cochran, 38, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. A memorial service for Chris was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Dr. George Mathison officiated. Visitation was one hour before the memorial service. A graveside service at Town Creek Cemetery followed.
Chris was a loving father, son, grandson, brother, and uncle. He was born June 20, 1977, graduated from Auburn High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business management from Auburn University. Growing up, he attended Grace United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member. Chris was a patriot, serving as an officer in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (“Blackhorse Regiment”) of the U. S. Army. After his service, he was a transportation and logistics analyst in Huntsville, Alabama.
Chris was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He told many interesting stories about his hunting and fishing trips and had ample evidence to back them up, including mounted deer heads, ducks, geese, and turkeys. He was especially proud of his collection of ducks, mounted in various stages of flight.
Chris is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Euell Cochran, Sr. and Beatrice Ann Raley Cochran, and by his maternal grandfather and hero, Troy “Pete” Holdbrooks.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Raley Marsh Cochran, and by his son, Robert Christopher Cochran. He loved them dearly. He is also survived by his parents, John and Carol Cochran; brother, Jonathan H. (Sara) Cochran; nephew, Croft H. Cochran; grandmother, Eleanor Holdbrooks; aunts: Linda Cochran Slaugh, Regena H. Baker (John), Alice H. Robinson (Benny); by the mother of his children, Caroline Marsh Lewis; along with close cousins and many friends.

Betsy Marie Hamby
Betsy Marie Hamby, 47, was born on April 14, 1968, in Trenton, NJ, and unexpectedly passed away August 9, 2015, at her home in Beauregard, Ala. She was preceded in death by mother Arlene R. Warren and brothers Lonnie Hamby and Gary Hamby. She is survived by father, Jerome Hamby and his wife Anne Hamby, sister, Shari Thompson, daughters Amber McKinney, Heather Martin, and Brandi Hamby, nephew Lonnie Hamby, and four grandchildren, Liberty, Madison, Naomi, and Gavin, and many other cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Betsy spent the majority of her life in East Alabama, surrounded by her family, who she greatly cherished. She spent much of adult life as a paraplegic, but the wheels never slowed her down. She had a spirit that could not be defeated, and she never gave up, even as she nearly escaped the house fire that took her life. Her story is one of overcoming unsurmountable odds, which she humbly utilized to inspire friends, family, and strangers alike. She was a very caring Daughter, Sister, and Mother, and she will be dearly missed by all. She was the sweetest Grandmother to each grandchild- spoiling them rotten, and she spent her last days filled with the tremendous joy they brought. She lived in deep relationship with God, and she is at peace, in Heaven, in her new pain-free body, walking with Jesus Christ for eternity.
Memorial service was held on August 13, 2015, at 4 p.m. at Living Way Ministries, 1101 Old Columbus Road, Opelika, AL 36804. Dr. Sara Sudduth Holton Dinius
Dr. Sara Sudduth Holton Dinius died at her home in Auburn August 11, 2015. She was born March 23, 1928 in Normal, Ill. Sara, known as Sally by family and friends, attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where she met her husband of 62 years, Dr. Robert Dinius. Sally also attended the University of Illinois at Northwestern and Florida State University, receiving the distinction of Certified Public Accountant.
Sally accepted a position in the accounting department at Auburn University in 1961, earning her doctorate in psychology from Auburn University in 1969. She served as the Secretary on the University Senate Committee in 1989 and was named Associate Professor Emeritae in June of 1993 at her retirement. Sally authored numerous articles about the field of accounting and presented programs at National Accounting meetings. After Sally and Bob retired, they enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries, supporting AU athletic teams, traveling in their RV through the US, Canada and Mexico, and spending time at their Lake Martin home. Sally and Bob loved their pets: Shamoo, Rhapsody, Susie I, Susie II, and Susie III.
Survivors include nieces, Judy Cortelloni and Deb Holton Roberts, nephews, Mike Holton and Nick Holton, and her brother Hap’s wife, JoAnn Holton. Visitation was Saturday, August 15, 2015, from 10-11 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, 1500 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL with services following in the Chapel at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lee County Humane Society, 1140 Ware Drive, Auburn, would be welcome.
