Birchfield Gaught

Mrs. Sherry Lynn Birchfield Gaught was born December 24, 1957, and passed away on Sunday, June 14 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The daughter of Ted and Voncile Birchfield, she is survived by her husband of  28 years, Rick Gaught, and her great joys in life, a son, Matthew (Maddee)  Gaught of Opelika and a daughter Tara (Mark) Petar of Hodensted, England.  She was also blessed to have one grandson, Gage Petar of Hodensted, England.
Sherry is also survived by her brother, Steve (Dory) Birchfield of Moody, Alabama, and her sister-in-law, Sandy (Fred) Karr of Cedar Hill, Texas.  She is also survived by so many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that were so very special to her.
Sherry owned CruiseOne of Opelika for 17 years.  She also worked as a secretary at Trinity Presbyterian Church and Trinity Christian School.  Prior to that she worked for 21 years at Ampex/Quantegy as an administrative secretary.
Sherry was a graduate of the class of 1976 of Opelika High School, a 1977 graduate of Massey Draughon Business College, and a graduate of Faulkner University.
Sherry’s cruising, traveling, and time at the beach with her many friends and family brought her such great joy.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Linda Farmer and her staff at EAMC Cancer Center for their many years of dedicated care and friendship, and also to Dr. John Thomas and his staff, Dr. Hirer Patel, the nursing staff on the 6th floor of EAMC, and the staff of Bethany House. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Center of EAMC in memory of Sherry B. Gaught would be appreciated. Funeral services were Wednesday, June 17, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Dr. Chris Duncan officiated and burial followed at Garden Hills Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday, June 16 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Lenore T. McWhirter

Mrs. McWhirter went to be with our Lord June 7, 2015.  She was born December 5, 1931, in Beauregard, Alabama.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Opelika.  She was an accomplished artist, loved traveling, gardening and cooking. Her sweet generosity will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Aubrey and Lillian Thompson; sister, Pauline Robertson, husband, Victor McWhirter; and son, Darryl McWhirter.  Mrs. McWhirter is survived by her daughter, Donna Brown; sister, Barbara Askew; many family and friends.
Visitation was June 11 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.  Graveside service followed at 4 p.m. in Macon-Salem Cemetery, Notasulga, Alabama.
