Special to the
Opelika Observer

Join members of the Auburn Opelika Running and Track Association (AORTA) for the 20th anniversary of the “Tough 10/Tough 2: race on Oct. 26. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. and will begin and end at Ogletree Village in Auburn.
The race features both a 10-mile and two-mile option for participants. In the spirit of friendly competition, awards will be presented to the top-three overall male and female runners and to the top male and female in each age group.
Runners of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in both the two and 10-mile courses. Strollers and leashed dogs are also welcome on both routes. Restrooms are located at the start and finish line and a portable toilet will be positioned along the 10-mile course. Auburn University mascot Aubie will also be making a special appearance.
The Tough 10/Tough 2 race is dedicated in honor of the life of Nick Holler, a dedicated community leader and well-known member of AORTA.
“Nick lived his whole life in service to others, and so it only made sense for us to dedicate this race in his honor after he passed away,” said race director Summer Vaughan.
Proceeds from the race will also benefit the East Alabama Medical Center’s Foundation for Breast Cancer Early Detection. Each runner will receive a pink ribbon to wear during the race.
“It really is the best way to spend your Saturday,” Vaughan said. “You’re supporting breast cancer education and health and welfare, which is so important, while also giving your body a good workout.”

Participants may also register on Oct. 25 at Watson Brothers Patio and Hearth from 12 to 5:30 p.m. or on race-day starting at 6:30 a.m. Pre-registered participants can also pick up their race packets at Watson Brothers on Oct. 25.
