LEE COUNTY — On May 2 and 3, four members of the Lee County SWAT Team competed in the Snipercraft Challenge in Clearwater, Florida. This two-day challenge is part of the annual SniperWeek conference, where SWAT team snipers from the U.S. and other countries gather for training and updates about current events.
The Lee County SWAT Team is comprised of specially trained law enforcement officers from Auburn Police Department, Opelika Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
In the Snipercraft Challenge, the only event of its kind in the nation, two-person sniper/observer teams compete in a series of challenges modeled around actual sniper incidents designed to test the teams’ judgement, teamwork, tactics, communication and shooting skills while under induced stress.
Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Hunt & his partner, Opelika Police Sgt. Metivier, took first place in the competition. Lee County Investigator Parks and his partner, Opelika Police Dept. Officer Mestre, placed 12th out of the 60 teams invited to participate.
